Why the Best Office Investments Pay Off in Ways That Don't Show Up on the Balance Sheet

Office investments pay off in dollars and in ways that don't show up on a balance sheet: belonging, pride, mentorship, and collaboration. This guide shows Greater Boston leaders how to set a baseline, measure both financial and human outcomes, and avoid crediting the office for changes it didn't cause.

How a Growing Medical Technology Company Used Workplace Design to Fuel Team Performance — A BTL Client Story

BTL grew from a dozen employees to nearly 400 in a decade. When the adjacent space became available, they did not hesitate. How Office Design Affects Employee Retention - and What It Costs When It Doesn't

Replacing one employee costs 50% to 200% of salary. At 15% turnover in a 100-person company that is $900,000 annually. 75% of workers lack quiet space and 21% would job-hunt over poor indoor air. Dropping turnover from 25% to 15% can save $500,000 over three years — even after a $1M office upgrade. Office Gallery makes the CFO case.

Why Employees Aren't Coming Back - and What the Office Needs to Fix It

Employers want 3.2 in-office days — employees average 2.9. Pushing harder without fixing the space increases resignations by 14%. The problem isn't policy, it's the office: too noisy, too few quiet zones, hybrid meetings that sideline remote participants. Office Gallery examines the design fixes that make the commute worth it.

What Workplace Design Actually Returns: The Business Case for Office Investment

Payroll is 90% of operating costs — a 1% to 5% shift in output, absenteeism, or turnover means $50,000 to $700,000 annually in a 50-person office. Office space averages just 42% utilization. Replacing one skilled employee costs up to 200% of salary. Office Gallery makes the business case for workplace design investment.

The Hidden Cost of a Poorly Designed Office: What Leaders Are Missing

Noise cuts productivity by up to 66%. Open offices generate 62% more sick days. One ergonomic injury costs $20,000 to $60,000. A 50-person office losing 30 minutes per person per day burns $200,000 in annual payroll. Poor office design is a business performance issue — and every cost in it is fixable.

Workers with good daylight access are 77% less likely to report feeling depressed — and lighting below 300 lux increases eye strain and headaches.
